Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training Program:
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training Program:
A 240-hour CNA class will be held four days per week (30 hours per week) for eight weeks at Manchester Community College, from October 20 through December 12, 2008. Graduates can work as CNAs or Home Health Aides in nursing homes, hospitals, group homes or private residences. Typical starting pay ranges from $10.00 to $13.00 per hour. Two programs are run each year, beginning in late March and mid October.
The program is open to eligible State of Connecticut cash welfare (TANF) or Workforce Investment Act (WIA) recipients, and low-income Manchester residents. There is no charge to attend if selected for enrollment; the program pays for all fees and required personal equipment. This is a very rigorous class, with nightly homework and extensive reading assignments. It demands a serious commitment from anyone who enrolls in it.
This daytime program (no evening hours) provides classroom instruction, hands-on skills practice, clinical experience in a nursing home and job skills education. It affords an excellent employment opportunity and provides a solid foundation for future advancement or a career in the health-care field.
Potential applicants must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the USA. They must also pass a drug test, physical, TB test, reading and math test and police background check. Proof of immunity to measles and chicken pox is required; vaccination shots are mandatory if not immune to them. Applicants must be interested in helping people and providing intimate care for them.
Applications will no longer be taken once a sufficient number have been received for each class.
