AARP Driver's Safety Program

This refresher course is for motorists 50+ to learn how to avoid hazards and employ safe driving techniques. $12.00 each for AARP Members or $14.00 each for Non-AARP Members. Participants may be eligible for a 5% reduction in auto insurance. Fall Class Schedule on Thursday's and Friday's, 8:30-12:30 both days as follows:

SEPT 23 & 24, OCT 28 & 29 and NOV 18 & 19.

 

Fall Prevention Awareness Day

On Wednesday, September 22nd, from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Mary-Ann Lodi, RPT Director of Rehabilitation Services of Crestfield Rehabilitation Center & Fenwood Manor will present the Fall Prevention Workshop & Walker/Cane Adjustment Clinic. What is your risk of falling? A simple fall can be a serious matter and CAN BE PREVENTED! Common risks for falls will be reviewed. Strategies, safety recommendations and sources for help will be presented. FREE refreshments will be served.

 

Walk & Learn

Katherine Mashiak, is proprietress of Kassandra...it's about thyme...Herbs Unlimited located in Somers, CT. She has studied herbs for over 30 years and she is co-founder and member of the Connecticut Herb Association, Inc. JOIN US on Thursday, September 9th as Katherine leads a guided nature walk of Howard Porter Reservoir. As we walk throught this natural setting she will educate walkers about healing herbs along the way. The trails of Howard Porter Reservoir allow for a fairly easy walk around the reservoir in a nice natural setting. We will meet at the Porter Reservoir Parking Lot. The walk will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. and end approximately at 10:30 a.m. In case of heavy rains, rain date will be Thursday, September 16th. Pre-registration through the Health Department is recommended. For registration and any questions you may have, please contact the Health Department at 860-647-3173.

 

AT HOME Program

( Travel to the Homes of Manchester Elders)
This program is designed for seniors who do not get out often, but would enjoy one-to-one visits from a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Each one-hour visit is customized by our very own Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Nina Stramaglia, to suit the interests of the participant and may include social, physical and creative activities. SENIOR CIRCLE - DON'T MISS OUT!
Do you know anyone who might be interested in the Senior Circle? It is a small, family-like group that meets at the Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays under the friendly and enthusiastic leadership of Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Nina Stramaglia. Members enjoy a variety of activities including crafts, gentle exercise, reminiscing, and current events, as well as having lunch together. This is not a drop in program; pre-registration is required. Please call Sue Bernstein or Nina Stramaglia at 647-3211 for more information.
